BioProtect Balloon Spacer
Whole-gland spacing for modern prostate cancer radiation therapies.
Powering Treatment Forward
Predictable Spacing for Radiation Planning
BioProtect, the first non-gel spacer for prostate cancer radiation therapies, is made of biodegradable material and designed for control and reproducibility for treatment planning. BioProtect has been shown to provide consistent prostate-to-rectum separation across the entire prostate gland.1,2
Proven to Perform. Ready for SBRT.
BioProtect’s pre-formed shape creates consistent, stable, and symmetric spacing. Clinical studies demonstrate significant rectal dose reduction and support the use of BioProtect in advanced radiation treatment planning regimens, including moderate hypofractionation and SBRT.1,2
Features
Coverage at the Prostate Apex
BioProtect has been shown to consistently create measurable apical spacing, while gel spacers may not always do so.3 SBRT data demonstrate the importance of full-gland spacing, with ≥ 14 mm separation from base to apex yielding the lowest rectal dose.4
Visible, Stable Spacing
BioProtect is placed under TRUS guidance and is visible under CT, ultrasound, and MRI imaging.5 After placement, space created with BioProtect has been shown to be maintained through the course of treatment.1
Quality of Life Preservation
BioProtect achieved consistent spacing with significant rectal dose reduction in the pivotal trial.1 Follow-up showed sustained and statistically significant patient quality-of-life benefits in the bowel, urinary, and sexual domains.6*

Designed for Modern Therapies
BioProtect fits within modern, efficient radiation therapy workflows.
Protection for Shorter-Course Regimens
Meaningful Dose Reduction
BioProtect’s significant rectal dose reduction across multiple modern radiation therapy regimens has been demonstrated in clinical and dosimetric planning studies.1,2
Prepared for Modern Planning
Supports Higher-Dose Regimens
Advancements in prostate radiotherapy demand consistent and reproducible anatomy. BioProtect provides dependable base-to-apex separation aligned to modern prostate radiation planning needs.1,2
Prioritizes Patient Quality of Life
Bowel, Urinary, and Sexual Benefits
BioProtect patients reported better maintenance of bowel, urinary, and sexual quality-of-life domains compared with control over 48 months6* — and BioProtect is the only spacer to show statistically significant preservation of sexual function.

The BioProtect Difference: Dosimetric and Geometric Performance
Designed for consistent, full-gland spacing — including at the apex — BioProtect provides reproducible geometric separation that supports favorable dosimetry. Gel-based spacers can underperform inferiorly, where asymmetric or limited expansion may leave the apex of the gland insufficiently protected.3
